I got to review the details of my reports with the Oncologist today and it was a little different from the short phone conversation we had:
The good news is my liver is not in the best shape but it isn't because of cancer. My diabetes, over-weight, high cholesterol have created a fatty liver basically. If I get the diabetes and weight under control it could get better. Also, it's pretty sure that the lung spots are from the radiation treatments.
Now for the potentially bad news. You didn't think I'd get away without hearing something bad, did you!? I didn't mention this before because they told me the bone scan was good.
The not so good news is I had a lesion in my right Ilium (pelvis) last year. This year I have lesions in both sides, close to the spine. The bone is right behind where all of the swollen lymph nodes were on last year’s scan. The lymph nodes are okay now. The bone scan report from this year didn’t have any detail on it. Not like the reports from last year’s bone scan and this year’s CT scan. Both listed the findings as suspected metastatic deposits but the new bone scan just had a one liner at the top that stated “Osseous (bone) metastatic disease is not suspected”.
Basically, the bone scan radiologist is declaring it degenerative in nature. So, there are conflicting reports. The Oncologist said it’s either the benign degeneration, cancer that was killed by the treatments, or it is an active cancer. She is going to watch my blood work and I’ll repeat both the scans in December.
If the December scan shows a continued progression then it would be highly suspect or for sure that it’s bone cancer. Of course she told me to do my best to not worry about it until that time.
So here I was so upset about my liver and that was the least of my worries. Anyway, it really could be old age so the next scans maybe fine.
I guess we'll all have to wait and see how the saga plays out.
